Labrum Tear

The labrum is a fibrocartilaginous ring that encircles the hip socket. It functions to stabilize the ‘ball and socket’ mechanism. This fibrocartilaginous ring can tear as a result of traumatic injury, overuse or degeneration. Symptoms- Symptoms of a torn labrum manifest typically as groin pain. Other symptoms may include hip clicking and a phenomenon that the hip is ‘catching’ or ‘locking’.

Treatment

Treatment of this condition can be performed arthoscopically. The labrum tear can be either repaired with sutures or if the tear in irreparable, the torn portion can be removed. The procedure is ambulatory. Weight bearing may begin immediately in most cases. Activity restrictions are tailored to the individual case and may be necessary for up to 8 weeks.
