Bilateral Hip Replacement

Sunday, February 19th, 2012

I have been suffering with arthritis and joint pain since l966, when I had a childhood accident and dislocated my hip.  After two years of doctors “practicing medicine” and finally taking a simple xray which showed the dislocation, I had my hip joint hastily put back in place with pins.

Long story short…..I lost two inches of growth in my right leg during the time of dislocation and had developed scoliosis and other fun joint diseases.

Fast forward thirty five years….and years of deterioration, bad limp, pain and arthritic joint disease….I learned of Dr. Greg Montalbano and decided to finally have my hip replaced.  It was by far the best decision I have ever made. Dr. Greg calmed my fears, answered all my questions, and after surgery, not only was I pain free….but as an added bonus…my legs were even and I no longer had a limp.  It was like winning the lottery.  Dr. Montalbano is a caring, wonderful surgeon who has hands of gold.  If you are reading this and are contemplating having hip replacement….I would advise you to run (wishful thinking)…not walk and have this truly life changing experience…..To be painfree…ying and yang…is only something shared by other joint disease patients who understand the agony of bone on bone torture.

Last year I needed my left hip replaced, and I again enlisted Dr. Montalbano’s help.  He has always been there to help whenever I called or had a question or concern, and his service and staff are the best I have ever encountered.  He is like family now and has given me my life back.  I am grateful to Dr. Greg for his kindness, professionalism and skills….and sing his praises wherever I go.

Sincerely,

Elaine B.

chosen a better doctor.  I was in rehab

came home on the 27th.  I will
call your office on Monday to get an appointment with you.  I am walking up and down the stairs. The pain
has greatly diminished.  I thank you
again doctor for your patience and your professionalism in dealing with me.

ROTATOR CUFF SURGERY

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Prior to my surgery my pain level was extreme.  I had a limited amount of range of motion and was unable to do anything in acceptance.  I was referred to Dr. Montalbano by my primary care physician Dr. Savino.  My experience at the office was well and above beyond satisfactory.  The office staff was completely competent.  I recovered from the surgery quicker than I had expected.  I was told approximately 4-6 months for full range of motion but in fact it was only about 3 months.  I feel great now with the exception of the occasional soreness which is due to arthritis.  My pre-operative pain is completely resolved.   I am able to do things 100 times more than before surgery.  I absolutely would use Dr. Montalbano again, in fact I am planning on having him do surgery on my left shoulder as well.  I have recommended Dr. Montalbano to anyone that could use his help.  Dr. Montalbano is a complete professional.

Dear Dr. Montalbano,

I want to tell you that in all my 67 years I have never met a doctor who care about his patients like you do.  You gave me hope for the future even if I am old.  Your staff is without a doubt the best.  Deborah Curatolo is so efficient and very caring.  Dr. Montalbano GOD BLESS YOU.  You are in my prayers every night.

Left elbow

Friday, December 16th, 2011

Dear Dr. Montalbano,

I sought medical treatment for an elbow injury this past August and was referred to your office by my niece, Tara DeVitto who is employed by you.  I had a little trepidation at first because I was not sure if my insurance coverage would be satisfactory.  However, your office staff assured me it would be and after checking with my provider, I became a patient.

I couldn’t have made a better decision in my life!  Your office personnel and staff were wonderful and I’m writing this letter to inform you of the superb care and professionalism they provided during my treatment.

Your P.A. Michelle was outstanding and answered all my questions (no matter how trivial they might be) and coordinated a treatment plan that has worked wonders.  After explaining my dissatisfaction with using cortisone, she started a physical therapy plan for me and my pain went from tolerable to manageable, and is now gone.

Your office staff was likewise sincere and thorough, and did all they could to make things run smoothly as did the therapists and personnel of Peak Performance Pt.  I would appreciate it very much if you would share this letter with, Jessica, Nicole, Deborah and Tara of your office, as well as Ivan, Carl, Brooke, Jen, and Priscilla from Peak and pass along a sincere “Thank You” from me for aiding in my recovery.

In our society, we often criticize those who do a substandard job, but rarely take the time to extend our thanks to those who work hard for us to make our lives better.  After checking your credentials before I became a patient, and that you no doubt insist upon the same dedication from your staff; I’m happy to say that you have chosen a team worthy of your skills and needs.  I have already referred others to your office and will gladly continue to do so.

Thank you again doctor, and I wish you continued success in your field and with yo new Staten Island office/treatment facility.

Sincerely,

Lou Corradi

Left Total Knee Replacement

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Prior to my total knee replacement, the pain level was constantly between a 7-10.  I was walking with a cane because my knee was constantly hurting me.  Going up and down stairs was almost impossible.  I was being woken up during the night from the knee pain and therefore was not getting a restful night’s sleep.  I tried to exercise as much as possible but it was difficult.  I started to become somewhat of a hermit because when you can’t walk you really can’t do much.  I was starting to have to take time off of work because of the pain.  Activitites that I lived doing, (dancing, racquet ball, walking) I wasn’t able to do any longer.

I have been using Dr. Montalbano for over 10 years.  I first saw him at Bayley Seton Hospital when he was taking care of another patient in the pre-op area.  I was so impressed with how he was treating that patient that when he left I asked the woman who he was.  Later on when I needed an orthopedist I went to see him and have been using him ever since.

As far as office staff goes – I have never had a problem.  Always courteous, polite, very informative, helpful and respectful of your privacy.  (Even though I scheduled surgeries and cancelled them I was always treated the same.)  Dr. Montalbano and his staff are always up on the latest surgical techniques, surgical procedures and treatments.  Waiting time is usually not too long.  When I would call in with any questions, someone always got back to me in a very reasonal amount of time.

After finally scheduling the surgery, that I actually went through with, Dr. Montalbano and Michelle Pokrassa (RPA) went over the surgical procedure and any questions I had they went over with me several times until I felt that I was comfortable with the knowledge.

The surgery went so much better than expected.  I was so frightened of being in the hospital over a weekend but I have to say that the weekend staff was better than the weekday staff.  I was very impressed with the surgery that Dr. Montalbano did.  After 3 months I was back in the gym (full speed ahead), was able to go out dancing and able to go for walks again.  I had a great summer, going to the beach, etc.  Scarring was very minimal.

I need the other knee replaced as well, and I must say that if I had the time to take off from work I would have done it already.  The pain is so minimal in the knee at this time that you don’t even realize it.  It is now six months and I am going back to playing racquetball as well.  I would say that on a bad day, the pain level never goes beyond a 1-3 and the pain is more surgical pain which is getting better all the time.  I do not have any pain like I used to have.  (What a wonderful feeling)

I recommend Dr. Montalbano all the time.  In fact he just did a very new procedure on my son (which was amazing) and he operated on my friend as well.  I even recommended and gave his card to the cashier in Marshall’s because she was so impressed with how I was walking and how my knee actually looked (scar wise).  So yes, I would DEFINITELY recommend Dr. Montalbano

Right Total Knee Replacement

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

Prior to my surgery I had excruciating pain which limited me from traveling.  Towards the end I was even unable to walk.  I was referred to Dr. Montalbano by my primary care physician.  The experience at the office is very professional.  All responses to any problems that had arisen were taken care of in a timely fashion, and I was able to have direct contact with Dr. Montalbano when I needed to.  Within 24 hours after surgery,  I was able to get out of bed and walk on my own.  I was very surprised and thought it would take me longer.  Now, I am not completely pain free, but I am back to my normal routines prior to my arthritis pain.  I absolutely would use Dr. Montalbano again, and have recommended him to several people who are just as happy with him.

KNEE REPLACEMENT

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Prior to surgery my pain was on a level of 7-8 out of 10.  I could not walk more than 100 feet without pain.  It felt like someone was squeezing my knee.  Dr. Montalbano was referred to me by my family physician.  The staff at the office was very helpful, friendly, and efficient.  After surgery I was walking a few days later. I thought that I would need someone to help me for at least 2 to 3 months.  Honestly, it was only about 10-14 days when I was able to do everything that I wanted to do on my own.  I feel great now.  My pain is resolved depending upon the day’s weather.  I can now go back to my normal routines with the exception now of running.  If the need should arrive again (hopefully not), I would definitely return to Dr. Montalbano.  He is the only person that I could trust. I have recommended Dr. Montalbano to everyone that I know that would need his help.

HIP REPLACEMENT

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Prior to my surgery, my pain level was agonizing.  My ability to do things was extremely limited (I was not even able to walk 50 yards).  I was referred to Dr. Montalbano by my family physician.  My experience before and after surgery at Dr. Montalbano’s office was excellent.  After surgery, I was able to walk and function within one month, where I thought it would take me at least 3 months to recover.  I feel like a new man even better.  I am pain free.  I can do everything that I need to do without any limitations.  I absolutely would use Dr. Montalbano again, in fact he is now currently treating me for my shoulder.

Hip Replacement

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

January 23, 2008

You need a hip replacement were words I heard two years ago. WOW!, really, oh my me! Not what I wanted to hear.

With x-rays in hand I made an appointment with Dr. Montalbano, would explained, after many of my questions, what was to take place.  A surgery date and follow up therapy was all made by the Drs Office staff.  Post surgery and therapy did take work on my part but I have never regretted the decision to have a hip replacement, as it has been one of the most positive experiences of my life.

With Dr Montalbano’s skilled surgery I am pain free and walking.  My follow-up x-rays and annual visits with the help of Michelle Pokrassa, Physicians Assistant, who kindly continues to answer all my questions, have been good and once again I am glad of my decision to have the replacement.

Gratefully

Carol Dallas
