Tibia Pilon Fracture

Monday, November 21st, 2011

This gentleman had fallen 20 feet off of a ladder and sustained a severely comminuted fracture of his distal tibia and fibula. As you can see from the x-rays (image 1, 2) and CT scan (image 3) the joint surface was severely disrupted with multiple displaced segments and joint deformity.

In the postsurgical x-rays (image 4,5) you can see that the joint has been restored with a surgical reconstructive procedure that involved the use of contoured metal implants. As you can see in (image 6) the patient did quite well and returned to normal activities without the use of any special shoe, brace or assistive device.

He was unable to be contacted for comments, however, at the time of his last visit he as quite satisfied with his result and grateful for our services.
